I recently saw a quote that said “Each new day is an opportunity to improve yourself. Take it and make the most of it.” So the question is, are you making the most of each opportunity as it presents itself to you?
It’s easy to lose sight of this idea. To wake up each day and immediately focus on the things we have to do:
- I have to go to work
- I have to brush my teeth and get in the shower or I’ll be late
- I can’t forget to go to the grocery store
- The dog needs to be let out
You get the point. But how refreshing is it to stop and realize that yes, all these things are important, but there is so much more that I COULD be doing?
That’s not meant to downplay the things that you’re already doing. Let’s face it, you COULD throw your hands in the air, withdraw any cash you have, and drive off to a beach someplace to tend bar. you don’t – but you could. Most of us choose the path of responsibility, and therefore, find ourselves worrying about picking up dental floss at the store later today, because it’s something that we need to enrich our responsible lives.
But for just a second, abandon that thought pattern, allow your brain think about the possibilities that are out there that you could realistically achieve if only you applied yourself to them. Now ask yourself what’s stopping you from doing those things. Is it laziness? Is it comfort? Is it just some other excuse that’s easier to let hold you back than to face the reality of what might be?
Now ask yourself if those excuses are really worth it?
What COULD you be achieving today?
